Welcome To Canuckistan

Where we’re very polite (even when we’re ranting about things that irritate us)

Hello all.

For those of you who aren’t aware, I had a blog at josephtremblay.wordpress.com that I updated VERY occasionally. Last night it occurred to me that perhaps the way to get myself to post with greater regularity was to jettison the old blog and set up shop someplace new and shiny – hence the new blog. I can’t promise that I’m going to post regularly, but I’m certainly going to try my best.

P.S. – The name “The Canuck” comes from my lovely fiancee and her blog The Clam Rampant. I can’t remember if it was The Clam or her sister, at The Big Seester Sez who coined ‘Canuckistan’.

UPDATE: I decided to import all the posts and such from the old blog in case any of the new readers (I hope there will be new readers) want to look around in the archives and see what motivates The Canuck enough to post.

  1. I think “Canuckistan” was actually coined by conservative bloggers who were trying to imply that Canada is or is far down the road to being a dhimmi state.

I, however, just like the ring of it. It has a certain je ne sais quoi, don’t you think? It gently teases Canadians (Canuck), and adds a bit of an exotic flair with the “istan”. 🙂

  3. Jaibee (and other a-politicals):

“Dhimmi” is the term used in the Koran to describe non-Muslims being ruled by Muslims. There was one set of rules for Muslims, and one for non-Muslims (dhimmi). Don’t ask me to pronounce it; I don’t speak Arabic.

Some people think that Europe, Canada, and to a lesser extent the U.S. are on a Slip ‘n’ Slide to being dhimmi status. That’s where the term Canuckistan originally came up, I think. Like I said, I just like the ring of it.
