Welcome To Canuckistan

Where we’re very polite (even when we’re ranting about things that irritate us)

I wonder?

As I was perusing the daily news this morning (including the usual Palin-bashing), a question came to mind …

If the Democratic candidate for President was, I don’t know, Adolf Hitler, would all those on the left side of the political spectrum still demonize the Republican candidate?

Here are some of the articles I saw that got me thinking about this:

Palin ‘a disgrace to women’: Bardot

Madonna bans Palin from shows

Diddy scared of Sarah Palin

And, for those who haven’t seen it, Keith Olbermann’s uber-classy remarks from a few days ago

By the way, who cares what the f**k Brigitte Bardot, Madonna, or P. Diddy (or whatever he’s calling himself this week) think of the election. Shut up, cast your ballot on November 4, and then continue shutting up.

  1. SO with you about not caring what celebrities think. For the record, that includes conservative celebrities like Chuck Norris. And while I’m sure Jon Voight is a great guy, the fact that he’s endorsed McCain/Palin doesn’t affect my voting decisions one jot.

It’s very nice for rich and famous people that they have a bully pulpit, but they’re no better qualified than I am to opine about this.

And hey. Didn’t Madonna give up her American citizenship to become a Briton? So I should care even *less* what she thinks than the average celebrity! I should care…oh, about as much as I care what Elton John or Paul McCartney think. Which isn’t very much. They’re both great songwriters and performers (John and McCartney, not Madonna), but that doesn’t qualify them to influence my opinion.

  2. Amen, sweetie!

At least Olbermann is a journalist. Until I read the comments that I linked to above, I thought he was a pretty good one. I’m not going to write him off for this one, but if he keeps this sort of stuff up, I probably will.

Would this be the appropriate time to mention the name of Wendy Mallick?

    😉

  5. Oops, I just realized I got the name wrong… it’s HEATHER Mallick, not Wendy. Don’t know what I was thinking there. Regardless, she’s still a pig (as Greta Van Susteren rightly called her). Anyone who labels conservatives and Republicans as “white trash,” says that white men are Republicans because of their sexual inadequacies, compares a vice presidential candidate to a porn star and pokes fun of that same candidate’s pregnant daughter deserves to be called a pig (and much worse).

And I can no longer find a copy of her catty column on the CBC website. It looks like they’ve finally used common sense and removed it.

Yes, Kasia, I think we should ignore what non-Americans have to say about the American political process, just as they should ignore what we have to say about theirs.
